RE: Texas residence

Annual vehicle inspections IF you drive into Texas annually. My truck was last inspected in Texas 2 years ago and it might be 2 more before I cross the Texas border again. As a full time SKP out of Livingston I can not think of any downside to being a SKP Texan. Been one for six years now and may have spent a total of 3 weeks in Texas in all that time.

RE: Kitchen Appliances in Slide

I've had one for 6 years now and we are full time in it and have had no problems. One issue to be aware of is the fridge mounted in a slide vents out of the upper opening on the side of the slide, those mounted outside the slide are generally vented through the roof. Recently I've heard that some of the Dometic models had to have a heat shield installed to keep the heat from darkening the wood inside the upper vent.

RE: Anybody Canceling Trips Because Of Fuel Prices?

Yep, no more long distance travel for me. Going from Tampa to Va mountains once a year in April and back in Sept is the norm for my future. I'll miss seeing the Tetons and Yellostone etc. again but I just can't afford the fuel cost of rambling the way I have for the past six years, (heavy sigh). Been to Alaska and Nova Scotia so I've seen it all. Don't look for me and don't feel sorry for me, I'm happy with what I have. I think I'll just go trout fishing in the morning, as I only have to walk to the stream, about 20 feet, (again heavy sigh). Ed

F-450 Hitch question

I took my 04 F-450 by a hitch shop in Tampa to get an estimate on installing a regular tow hitch. The guy looked at it and said $4,000 to fabricate and install. I found one online from Draw Tight that I can get for around $500 but I'd have to install it myself and I'm not sure if it wolud be a simple bolt on or if I'd have to do some drilling. The fuel tank sits between the frame also. Can any of you 450 drivers explain why it is so difficult to put a hitch on one or give me some advice on how to proceed. 4 grand is too much money for a dumb ole hitch. Ed

RE: It's Official, Scott TP is SAFE for RV !

I've used Scotts single ply for six years now and recommend it to all. It is the brand I choose, period! Ed

RE: NOT BALANCING TRAILER TIRES

I've been towing five years now and tried to get my first set of replacement tires balanced. The tire guy slapped them on the balance machine and put 5 or 6 ounces of weight on each of six tires/rims. The tires were further out of balance after this than they were before!!! My wife in her car behind me said they were bouncing like a pin ball. Apparently he (tire guy) did not have the "adaptor" that uses the bolt holes rather than the center hole and since my wheels center hole is apparently not actually "centered" due to the manufacturing process the machine gave him eronous solutions. I've looked several times but have yet to find a shop with the adaptor. Perhaps a RV speciality shop might have them. Bottom line is that just because some guy sticks weights on em and says your good to go, don't make it so unless he knows what he is doing. Good luck with yours. I pulled the weights off and got a better trailer ride for not having them.

RE: Burning wire smell coming from A/C air

Both of my 07 Dometic roof mounted A/C's developed a burned capicitor. Happend about three months apart. Dometic has a new design for the capicitor and after replacement we have had no more burnt smells (KNOCK WOOD!)
